Mr. Hubbard, a detestable blackmailer, is found murdered in his home, Swaythling Court. A local gentleman and scholar, Colonel Sanderstead, undertakes to solve the mystery with the help of other amateur detectives, as he sifts through a myriad of theories and motives.
