Review

When a new submarine dives and doesn’t come up, and half the crew are drowned, and there are suspicions of foul play, it is a job for Admiral Wetherbee, a retired officer who likes to play with mysteries. More killings in hospital of rescued sailors, and strange doings at the scene of the wreck, add to the excitement. An excellent yarn. (Ottawa Journal, March 7, 1942)

Review

Admiral Wetherbee, U.S.N. (retired), was laid up with a broken leg when the submarine Starfish made a full crash dive on schedule, and never came up. But the old boy’s brain wasn’t lame, even though a good many people thought it was, and his acute reasoning solved the mystery. The number of genuine thrills to the minute in this navy story must come close to setting a record. (Baltimore Sun, Jan. 11, 1942)
