Lord Cecil Burnleigh is the last of his family, now owner of the tragic Burnleigh Manor overlooking the North Sea. Following mysterious circumstances, he brings in young American architect Riker to aid in the manor’s restoration and to secretly investigate the castle’s mysteries. Suspicions arise over former and current staff, along with romantic interest towards the aloof, beautiful daughter of the caretaker—but she seems to know more about what is going on than she admits. Ghostly sounds, appearances and disappearances, and threatening warnings lead inevitably to a confrontation that forces past and present together in deadly earnest. The Mystery of Burnleigh Manor was published in 1930, and was Walter Livingston Faust’s first mystery novel.
